Darren Johnston’s Chicago Situation

For the last four years or so I’ve been going out to Chicago once or twice a year  to visit old friends, make new friends, play music, see art, and to soak up some inspiration from the city’s very  fertile jazz and improvised music community.  I’ve been gradually developing some special musical relationships in Chicago, and last July I spent the whole month there, playing, writing, performing, serving beer at the Pitchfork Festival, and eventually making a recording for Porto Franco Records with a few of the folks I’ve been playing with there over the years, Jeb Bishop on trombone, Jason Adasiewicz on vibes, Nate McBride on bass, and Frank Rosaly on drums.  I’m looking forward to this upcoming release,”The Big Lift,” and to playing with these amazing artists more in the future.
